John has been taking pictures for most of his life; starting with an old Kodak Duaflex box camera his parents bought from a local Goodwill store. During these early years, John began developing his “camera eye” and learned very early the importance of key elements required in all levels of photography.
John’s photography education was greatly expanded during his high school years when he purchased a new Chinon 35mm film camera for his high school Photography classes. Of course, back in THOSE days, fully automatic cameras were a luxury that few could afford, so John learned how to manually set a camera for any given portrait or action setting - a required skill even in this day and age of fully automatic digital photography.
After high school, John spent 10 years in the Marine Corps - all with his trusty Chinon hanging on his shoulder. Needless to say, John’s Marine Corps experiences in several locations throughout the United States and other exotic locations abroad such as Grenada, Beirut, Israel, Egypt, Cyprus and Spain provided more than ample opportunities for John to further broaden his photographic skills.
In the years since his Marine Corps career, John has concentrated his photographic efforts on taking pictures of his two sons and family, further developing his eye for youth sports, family protraiture, and numerous other special life experiences such as weddings, graduations, and candid photography.
John’s style is one of the less formal setting. His photography captures the story of the event in a light, yet dramatic manner that makes each photo a unique moment in the life of the subject. A successful photo to John is not one that properly reflects his own personal style but rather, captures the unique, personal essence of his subject and/or the emotion of that moment in time of his subject.
